Major fire at the Bösendorfer factory

by: Online Piano Atlas -

Wednesday night, a fire broke out at the Bösendorfer piano factory in Wiener Neustadt. The blaze was extinguished by four fire departments and nearly a hundred volunteers. A damaged outbuilding served as an archive.

Several rescue calls were received by the Wiener Neustadt fire department at approximately 10:30 p.m., coinciding with the automatic activation of the company's fire alarm system. Christian Pfeiffer, commander and operations manager for the conflagration Department of Wiener Neustadt, told the Associated Press that a full-scale conflagration could be seen from a distance.

As this is an archive, the fire spread rapidly due to the vast quantities of paper. According to the information, the facility also contained cardboard boxes.

The manufacturing facility could still be protected. It is yet unknown what started the fire. The police have begun an investigation into the cause of the fire.
