Terms and Conditions

Last updated: 25 April 2026

These Terms and Conditions ("Terms") govern your use of the Piano Age Calculator service ("PAC", "Service") at pianoagecalculator.com. By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service.

We may update these Terms from time to time. Material changes will be communicated to registered users by email or through the Service before they take effect, and the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Your continued use of the Service after a change takes effect constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.

1. Who We Are

The Service is provided by:

Online Piano Atlas Kft. Registered office: 1172 Budapest, Besenyszög utca 45, Hungary Company registration number: 01-09-390474 Tax number: HU10866447 Email: info@onlinepianoatlas.com

In these Terms, "we", "us" and "our" refer to Online Piano Atlas Kft., and "you" refers to the user of the Service.

2. The Service

The Piano Age Calculator helps users estimate the age of a piano based on its brand and serial number. The Service has two parts:

  • Public Try-it page — anyone may search the database without registering. The Try-it page does not display the full result, but indicates whether the data combination (brand and serial number) exists in our database.

  • Member calculator — accessible after subscribing to a paid plan, displays the full result including manufacturing year and additional brand information.

The information returned by the Service is provided for personal, non-commercial use, and is based on data we have collected from publicly available sources, manufacturer records and historical references. We make reasonable efforts to keep the database accurate, but we do not warrant that every entry is complete or correct (see Section 9).

3. Subscriptions and Payment

3.1 Plans

We currently offer two plans:

  • Basic — one-time payment, valid for one calendar month from purchase. Ends automatically; no renewal, no cancellation needed.

  • Pro — annual subscription, automatically renewed each year on the same calendar day until cancelled.

Current pricing is shown on the pianoagecalculator.com plans page. We may change prices for future billing periods, with reasonable advance notice to existing subscribers.

3.2 Payment Processing

Payments are processed by our payment partners PayPal and Stripe. When you place an order, your payment information is transmitted directly to the payment processor in encrypted form. We do not store your card or bank account details on our servers. Each payment processor's own terms and privacy policy apply to the payment transaction.

3.3 Cancellation of the Pro Plan

You can cancel your Pro subscription at any time:

  • From your account settings on pianoagecalculator.com, or

  • From your PayPal or Stripe account directly, or

  • By emailing us at info@onlinepianoatlas.com

Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current paid period. You will continue to have access to the Service until that date, and you will not be charged for the next period.

3.4 Refund Policy

Because the Try-it page lets you check whether the brand and serial number combination you need is in our database before you pay, we ask you to use the Try-it page first.

Once a paid plan has been activated and you have accessed the member calculator, no refunds will be given for that billing period.

In rare cases of technical failure attributable to us — for example if the member calculator is genuinely non-functional within 30 days of purchase due to issues on our side — we may, at our sole discretion, issue a full or partial refund. To request consideration, email info@onlinepianoatlas.com with your order details.

This refund policy does not affect your statutory consumer rights under EU law and Hungarian law. EU consumers normally have a 14-day right of withdrawal for distance contracts, except where the consumer has expressly consented to immediate performance of a digital service and acknowledges losing the right of withdrawal once performance begins (Article 16(m) of Directive 2011/83/EU, as implemented in Hungary). By activating a paid plan and immediately accessing the member calculator, you give such consent and acknowledge that the right of withdrawal is lost from that moment.

4. Your Account

You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential. You must not share your password with anyone, and you must notify us promptly at info@onlinepianoatlas.com if you suspect unauthorised access to your account.

You are responsible for all activity that occurs under your account, except where unauthorised access has been promptly reported to us.

You must provide accurate registration information and keep it up to date.

5. Permitted Use, Account Sharing and Anti-Abuse

5.1 One subscription, one user

A subscription grants the right to use the Service to one individual person — the registered account holder. You may use the Service from any reasonable number of personal devices (for example a phone, a tablet and a laptop), but the account itself must not be shared with, transferred to, sold to, or used by any other person.

5.2 Anti-abuse monitoring

To protect paying members and the integrity of the Service, we operate an automated monitoring system that analyses search activity per account. The system looks at indicators such as the number of distinct IP addresses, distinct device fingerprints, geographic spread and frequency of searches over rolling time windows.

The monitoring is described in our Privacy Policy, Section 4.

5.3 What happens when abuse is suspected

If our monitoring suggests that an account is being shared with persons other than the registered account holder, we will review the case and may take one or more of the following actions, choosing the response we consider proportionate to the situation:

  • Take no action, where the pattern is plausibly explained by legitimate single-user behaviour

  • Send a warning email to the account holder and request a password change

  • Suspend the account temporarily until the matter is resolved

  • Terminate the account and the subscription in cases of clear or repeated abuse

Where reasonably possible, we will give the account holder an opportunity to respond before terminating the account. In serious cases of clear abuse — including but not limited to commercial resale of access, large-scale credential sharing, or fraud — we reserve the right to suspend or terminate the account immediately and without prior notice.

Termination of an account due to abuse under this Section does not entitle the account holder to a refund of fees already paid.

5.4 Other prohibited uses

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose, or in violation of these Terms

  • Attempt to circumvent our access controls, scrape the database in bulk, or extract substantial parts of the database for separate use or redistribution

  • Reverse engineer, decompile, or attempt to derive the source code of the Service except as expressly permitted by law

  • Interfere with the operation of the Service, for example by sending automated requests at a rate that disrupts normal service

  • Use the Service to build or train a competing product or database

6. Communications

By creating an account you agree to receive transactional emails from us about your account, your subscription, security and material changes to these Terms or to our Privacy Policy. You cannot opt out of essential transactional emails for as long as your account remains active.

We may also occasionally send service-related newsletters or product updates. You can opt out of non-essential emails through your account settings or by using the unsubscribe link in any such email.

7. Service Availability and Changes

We make reasonable efforts to keep the Service available and accurate, but we do not guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, updates or due to factors outside our reasonable control.

We may add, change, suspend or discontinue features of the Service at any time. Where a change materially reduces the functionality available to existing paid subscribers during their current billing period, we will use reasonable efforts to notify affected users.

8. Intellectual Property

All editorial content, the database structure, software, designs, names, logos and trademarks displayed within the Service are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright, trademark and other intellectual property laws. You may use the Service for your personal use only. You may not copy, reproduce, redistribute, publish, sell or commercially exploit any part of the Service without our prior written permission.

Brand names of piano manufacturers referenced in the database are the trademarks of their respective owners and are used only for reference purposes.

9. Disclaimer

The Service and its content are provided "as is" and "as available", without warranties of any kind, express or implied, except those that cannot be excluded under applicable mandatory law (including consumer protection law).

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we do not warrant that the database is complete, error-free or up to date for every brand and serial number. Estimated manufacturing years are based on historical sources of varying reliability and should be treated as indicative.

If you use the Service to make a financial decision (for example to value, buy or sell a piano), you do so at your own risk and should always seek independent expert advice.

10. Limitation of Liability

Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits our liability for:

  • Death or personal injury caused by our negligence

  • Fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation

  • Any other liability that cannot be excluded or limited under applicable mandatory law (including under Hungarian consumer protection rules)

Subject to the above, and to the maximum extent permitted by law:

  • We are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, including loss of profits, loss of business, loss of opportunity, or loss of data, arising out of or in connection with your use of the Service

  • Our total aggregate liability to you in connection with the Service in any 12-month period is limited to the total fees you paid us in that period

11. Suspension and Termination

You may stop using the Service and cancel your subscription at any time, as described in Section 3.3.

We may suspend or terminate your access to the Service if you breach these Terms (including Section 5), if we are required to do so by law, or for serious operational reasons. Where reasonably possible, we will give you advance notice; in cases of serious or repeated breach, suspension or termination may be immediate.

Termination does not affect any rights or obligations that have already accrued.

12. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by the laws of Hungary, without regard to conflict of laws principles. EU consumers also benefit from the mandatory protections of the consumer law of their country of residence; nothing in these Terms removes those protections.

Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms or the Service shall be subject to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Hungary. Consumers may also bring proceedings before the courts of their country of residence, where required by EU law.

EU consumers may also use the European Commission's Online Dispute Resolution platform at ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr to resolve disputes out of court.
