MADE IN GERMANY OR CHINA?
Over the past few decades, many piano manufacturers ceased production, which often meant that brands changed ownership. For example, a brand made in Germany until 1950 may have moved its production to China by 1990. To give you accurate information, we flag any such change, so you'll know whether your piano was built in its original factory or somewhere else. Choose a brand and enter your piano's serial number.
#1
THE ONE AND ONLY
All of our data is stored on online servers, giving users real-time access and ensuring accurate, up-to-date information. The database includes more than 2,000 piano brands, past and present. These lists are never truly finished — we update and correct them continuously as new information becomes available.
MANAGED BY PIANO TECHS & BUILDERS
Beyond our own expertise, we have worked hard since 1992 to gather this information by reaching out to international museums, manufacturers, rebuilders, technicians, collectors, and piano owners. We'd like to thank everyone who has supported the development of the Piano Age Calculator.
GRAND OR UPRIGHT PIANO?
The database keeps upright and grand pianos separate because of how serial numbers work. Serial numbers don't always line up across the same brand or the same type of piano, so it's important to select the correct one.
